We planned our biggest family vacation we've done yet this year! Orlando, Florida including Disney World, Sea World, and the beach! Day 1 we traveled by airplane to Orlando, Florida. The kids were all really excited to ride an airplane. Since they typically get motion sick I was prepared with kids dramamine. The drowsy effect kicked in and Madi was asleep before we even took off! She slept most of the flight! Easiest flight with a toddler ever! Plus, no pukes so that was a bonus! That night, after a long and obnoxious wait at the rental car place trying to get the right car that would fit all of our luggage, we drove to Disney and checked into our hotel- the All-Star Music Resort. The hotel was fine- small but the area and proximity to Disney was nice!
Day 2 we went to Hollywood Studios. There we went on a couple rides in Toy Story land including Slinky Dog Dash, which was the first roller coaster we have been on as a family (and first Zach and Madi have EVER been on). It was lots of fun! The younger three loved it and Colton warmed up to it. We loved it so much we circled back and went on it again at the end of the day with a Fast Pass. We also went to a Frozen Sing Along with Anna and Elsa. That was a lot of fun and Madi loved it! We attempted 3 times to go on the Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance but it broke down every single time time at various stages which was REALLY frustrating especially since we spent over 2 hrs cumilatively standing in line for this ride. The bonus of it all was that we were able to play that experience to the guest relations people in a way that got us several fast passes to use on different rides both at Hollywood Studios and Magic Kingdom the next day. We went on a millenium falcon ride that the older three kids liked, Madi HATED and made me and Jon really motion sick!
A favorite at Hollywood Studios was the Indiana Jones Special Effects show. That had some pretty cool effects like fire and expolosions and we all thought it was pretty cool. We ended the day at Hollywood Studios on the Mickey Mouse ride and that was fun, though not as exciting as a roller coaster.
Day 3 we went to Magic Kingdom and it was CHILLY in the morning. We all only had shorts so we were pretty cold at first. Thank heavens I at least brought sweatshirts for everyone!
Madi REALLY wanted to see some princesses so we started the day by standing in line for an hour to see Rapunzel and Tiana. The lines are always annoying but the kids actually did pretty well in all of the lines. Definitely some complaining, but overall not too bad. Madi was thrilled to see the princesses, Katie enjoyed it more than I think she wanted to admit, and even though the boys like to pretend princesses are gross- they both smiled and seemed plenty happy to get in the pictures with us :). Next we rode a carousel just to get things going with a quick line.
We rode Splash Mountain, Big Thunder mountain (once at the beginning of the day and another time at night), saw the parade, climbed the Swiss Family Tree House, rode the dumbo ride (annoying story there because the worker made us switch seats because Zach was 12 hrs away from being 7 instead of actually 100% being 7), haunted mansion, 7 dwarves mine train, under the sea ride, and ended the night on the Tomorrowland Speedway. We also caught the fireworks show from behind a tree since it was so stinking crowded. Big Thunder Mountain, Splash Mountain, and 7 Dwarves Mine Train were definitely favorites amongst us. Colton and Madi were not fans of getting wet on Splash Mountain though and Colton didn't particularly like the drop. Katie and Zach talked a big game about not being scared and loving spooky stuff and then both got pretty freaked out by the Haunted Mansion. Madi LOVED the parade. She said it was her favorite part. She didn't want to miss a single second. Jon would probably say that was his least favorite part of the entire trip since we were crammed like sardines with a million other people and couldn't sit down. Since we were staying at Disney we also managed to sneak in a trip back to the hotel for a couple hour nap in the middle of our Magic Kingdom Day also which ended up being pretty vital! We were EXHAUSTED by the end of Day 2 at Disney World!
