Colton Turns 7!

My oldest child is 7 years old!   That is just crazy to me!  I still vividly remember the day 7 years ago, after a very sleepless night, when they handed me a tiny little baby with reddish blonde hair and and said, "Congratulations, you're a mom!"  It was such a surreal moment and I had no idea all the adventures that were ahead of me!

Colton has grown into such a smart boy at 7 years old.  He rocked his year of Kindergarten, learning to read, skipping ahead to first grade math, and learning all sorts of other things- including that he "NEEDS to go to Yellowstone!"  They had a week where they talked about National Parks and Colton was fascinated.  He wasn't always the best at staying on task and not getting distracted but he got better and better as the year went on.

Colton loves: Legos, dinosaurs, sharks, all animals in general, art, crafts, climbing, the Avengers.
Favorite Food: Graham crackers and milk
Least Favorite Food: Tomato Soup
Favorite Color: Blue
Favorite Dinosaur: Raptor
Favorite Animal: Komodo Dragon
Favorite Movie: Jurassic World
Favorite Place to Go: Zoo
Favorite Part of School: Lunch
When he grows up he wants to be: A Robot Builder so he can build robots and become Raptor Man (a super-hero he made up).

I gave Colton the choice of a birthday party, going to MN to see family, or going to a hotel for a night for his birthday.  I REALLY hoped he would choose anything but a party (because of a brand new baby making things more difficult), but he REALLY wanted a party.  He invited about 10 friends from school/church and we had simple shark party in the backyard the week before his birthday (since we would be traveling to Utah on his birthday).  We played games, ate cake and pizza, and opened presents.  It definitely wasn't the best party I've ever thrown but the kids all seemed to have fun so I guess that's all that matters!

On Colton's birthday we were in Omaha, Nebraska at a hotel on the way to Utah!  We opened his presents from the family the night before we left.  His favorite present, which he had asked for specifically, was his very own package of jerky!  We tried to make his actual birthday as special as possible, despite being on the road, by letting him choose where he wanted to eat (Chic-Fil-A) and stopping at Walmart and letting him pick out an activity book for the car.  He has been a pretty good sport about always traveling on his birthday and celebrating his birthday on different days!

We sure do love Colton.  He brings energy, creativity, and laughter to our house.  He loves his siblings and they love him.  He is very affectionate and always loves to give hugs.  He has a big smile and a bigger heart.  Happy Birthday Colton!
