Halloween 2020

For awhile, we didn't even know if we were going to be allowed to go Trick-or-Treating this year.  Some places did cancel it.  Thankfully, we were still able to go and enjoy the holiday, but things did look a little different.  More people just put bowls out on porches, some people had individually packaged treats, many wore masks, it was definitely interesting.  We didn't have our usual Trunk-or Treating at the Church or at the School so neighborhood trick-or-treating was all we got.  I will say, that while it was a bit sad to have things cancelled, it was also a little nice to not have to dress everyone up and go get tons of candy three different times!

In Ankeny, trick or treat happens on the day before Halloween and there are set hours- usally 6-8pm.  This year that fell on a Friday.  At about 2 pm on the Friday of Trick or Treat, Mark called and said they wanted to come and trick or treat with us.  I told them that was in about 3 hours, which surprised them, but they quickly got stuff ready, and drove down here.  They arrived at about 7pm, so my kids went out from 6-7 going one direction, back to the house to pick up the cousins at 7, then out again for another hour with cousins.  They loved it!

The next day for Halloween, I started the day with my first (and very windy) 10K run wiht my Ankeny girlfriends.  It was a virtual run that my friend Natalie set up but we decided to meet up and run it together at a local park.  It was fun to run together and check that 10K off my bucket list finally!  Afterwards we all had some donuts and hot cocoa and then I headed home to spend more time with family!  In the afternoon, us and Mark's family all went to the Center Grove Orchard together.  It was lots of fun to go all together and the kids all had a Blast!  Definitely a great Halloween!

This year Colton went as Pikachu, Katie went as a witch (a deal she struck with me last year to use a costume we already had), Zach went as a Skeleton (continuing his tradition of insisting he has to be something spooky), and Madi went as a Fairy.
