Happy 12th Katie!

12 is the birthday Katie had been looking forward to for a long time.  The year she got to enter the Young Women's program at church.  As one of the younger ones in her grade, most of her friends moved into Young Women's the year before and left her behind in primary.  Katie woke up to a very chilly birthday morning and a little surprise present- Snow Day- No School!  It actually didn't end up snowing a ton but it was very windy and chilly and a very classic blustery Iowa winter day.  It reminded me of the day she was born- on another snow day in Iowa 12 years earlier!
She requested her favorites, zucchini muffins for breakfast, sloppy joes for dinner, and dairy queen ice cream cake for dessert (which she designed online).  She also requested we play a game as a family- clue, and her favorite cookie- lemon swig sugar cookies.
Katie loves horses and had recently gotten into the show "Heartland" and was loving it.  For her birthday she got some riding boots and I signed her up for a horse camp nearby.  She was very excited!
Katie is such a great girl who is very responsible and wants to do her best.  She strives to get A's in all her classes and push herself to be healthy and be her best.  She loves to do special things for her friends and family.  She is a helpful, kind big sister and often acts like a "big" sister to her older brother as well.  We are so grateful for Katie!
For her birthday, Katie had her group of church friends come over for ice cream sundaes, brownies, and a movie/hangout.  They had a great time. It is such a fun group of girls!
